Announcements for Coaches:

  • Coaches: Visit www.eteamz.com to set up a quick and easy web site for your team. The myteam.com sites also offer automated notification phone calls, emails, or faxes to your entire team, eliminating the need for phone trees. It's free and easy to work with, even if you've never set up a web site before. If you do set up a team site (on eteamz.com or elsewhere) drop us a quick note (include the complete URL) and we'll link it to the Laker Club site.
  • All travel coaches are required to obtain an IYSA coaching certificate: a minimum of an "E" License for a head coach, an "F" certificate for an assistant. New travel coaches have a 6 month grace period during which they must enroll in a licensing course.
  • Remember to invite parents to attend GETSO meetings; all teams should be represented at each meeting!!
  • A few words on fields: Don’t abuse them…you’ve got to use them! If field usage is in doubt due to the weather, call the GEPD Hot Line: 858-0920.  The Hot Line is updated by 2:30 pm weekdays, 7:30 am on weekends.

If you reschedule a game, you must notify the GETSO Field Coordinator , and your league's Referee Assignor.

Remember that all practice times are reserved through the Field Coordinator

Resources for coaches:

  • Soccer Coach Mailing List: An internet mailing list that draws input, feedback, and discussion from coaches all over the world (though mostly the U.S.). All age groups and levels of competition are represented. Signing up for the list is a great way to learn about different coaching philosophies and strategies, tactics, drills, motivational ploys, etc. Post a question, put in your two cents worth, or just "lurk" and learn! Sign up is quick and easy! Click here for instructions.
  • Game and Practice Field Assignments
  • Illinois Youth Soccer Association:: The IYSA web site has a wealth of information on rules, tournaments, referee and coaching certification classes, etc.
  • Northern Illinois Soccer League
  • Illinois Women's Soccer League
  • FIFA: A link to the official Laws of the Game
  • Soccer Coach Mailing List Collaborations: Two good ones here: one covers the Laws of the Game, done in a practical style; the second is a Coaching Manual.
  • Virtual Soccer Coaching Clinics
  • Wheaton Wings Web Site: Our friendly rivals in the next town have put together a tremendous web site, with a number of informative articles and coaching links. Rather than simply copy all of their links, let’s give credit where credit is due!
  • Decatur Sports- A site with a wealth of information. A particularly large selection of drills, arranged by skill.
  • Exercise of the Day by Gary Rue- Gary is a high school coach from Kentucky and a frequent contributor to the Soccer Coach Mailing List. He is a very knowledgeable individual who has helped an untold number of coaches with his shared wisdom. Decatur Sports has compiled his "Exercise of the Day" list postings for your benefit. An EXCELLENT resource.
  • Brian Arnot's Soccer Development Site-Brian is another contributor to the Soccer Coach Mailing List, and has put together a nice site with some good ideas for training and development progressions.
  • Better Soccer More Fun-Inspired by the KNVB's Dutch Vision, this site contains information that coaches may find useful, especially concerning 4v4 and small sided games.
